Day 37 Nairobi to Cape Town
Chitimba Camp to Kande Beach Camp, Lake Malawi 220kmWe were up early, packed all our gear away and took it all back to the truck, then had a filling breakfast.
We left Chitimba Camp at 0830 and proceeded along the coast towards Mzuzu. We came to our first mountain range after 30 minutes of driving along the beautiful coastline and as we traversed the mountain the scenery got more incredible as we gained altitude. We arrived at Mzuzu around 12h30 and we all dispersed to get lunch and look around the large market in the centre of Mzuzu's shanty town where we purchased goods for our "Truck Olympics" outfits. We were back on the road around 14h30 and heading towards our final destination but not before stopping in at the Nkhata Bay Wood Market where you could bargain for some amazing woodwork which the guys were more than happy to trade stuff for.
We then drove another hour arriving at Kande Beach Camp just before dark. We setup camp and helped the cook group get things started before heading for an ice cold beer courtesy of "Watson" the barman. As this was one of the stops on the "Longest Way Down" we listened to the owners of Kande Camp relive some of the stories while Ewen McGregor & Charlie Boorman were in their company, a great laugh!
