We are in beautiful Malta....
Malta, 80 kilometers from Sicily with an extension of 315 square kilometers and 400 000 inhabitants it is one of the smallest and most densely populated states in the world.
There are two official languages English & Maltese, Italian was an official language until 1934 but many people still speak it.
Entry into the European Union took place on 1 May 2004 and became a member of the Eurozone from 1 January 2008. Malta is also a member of the Commonwealth.
Exploring Malta is not just breathtaking it is also easy as everyone is very friendly, helpful and speaks English. There are many ways to explore Malta, by bus, by boat, on foot and with water taxis.
There are 2 hop on hop off tour bus companies sightseeing Malta and city sightseeing. They both cost €20 and are a fantastic way to get a good overview of the island.
While exploring the capital,Valletta, we found the Is-Suq tal-Belt Food Market, it has many different food stalls with local and international cuisine. If you fancy a full english breakfast or some sushi for lunch you will find it here all under one roof.
For spectacular views of the Grand Harbour, Vittoriosa Yacht Marina and The Three cities head to The Saluting Battery. The gun firings are at 12h00 and 16h00 daily, get there at least 15 minutes before the firing not to miss the commentary.
From the Saluting Battery there is an elevator that goes down to sea level, the trip down is free and it costs €1 for the trip back up. Cross the road towards Grand Harbour to find the water taxis to 3 Cities. The small boats cost €2 per person, fit about 6 people and drop off next to the Maritime Museum. The larger ferries cost €1.50 per person.
We wish that we had more time to explore. I would advise a minimum of 2 weeks or longer as there is plenty to see and do.
Malta has very affordable flights from most mayor European cities.
