Day 14 Nairobi to Cape Town
NRE - Nile River Explorers, Uganda
After a fantastic nights sleep we woke up early, grabbed our camera gear and headed down to the Nile River Camp to meet our guide Anton for the next 2 hours. We boarded a flat bottomed riverboat and started cruising the river in search of what we had been hearing the last couple of days and it wasn't long before we saw what we were looking for.... The African Fish Eagle!

We spent the next 2 hours photographing the majority of species found on the Nile including the Long Tailed Cormorant, the African Darter, Pied Kingfisher, Malachite Kingfisher, African Open Billed Stork, Black headed Weaver, Great Egret, Great Cormorant, Black Crowned Night Heron, Light Backed Heron, Common Sandpiper, Red tailed & Vervet Monkeys, an African Nile Otter and a Water Monitor (the bird watching tour cost $120 for 2 hours). It was a magic start to the day and when we arrived back at Nile River Camp we had a filling cooked breakfast and coffee for $10.

We had been talking to Rainer who is a German friend Ingrid met on her travels some years ago. Rainer owns "The Haven River Lodge" which is an eco friendly resort situated 30-40 minutes from Jinja had insisted we must go and visit. Rainer was unfortunately  in Germany but the hospitality his employees showed us when we arrived was some of the best we had seen on our trip to date. We sat down to breathtaking views of the Nile River Rapids whilst having the best meal we have had in Uganda. We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging in front of the roaring Nile and watching the Fish Eagles stalk their prey before returning to NRE for dinner and an early night.
