Masai Mara Safari Day 1

After the introduction to the Masai Mara the day before the excitement was high! We were so excited that we woke up 2 hours before the alarm to the sound of rain and roaring lions in the distance along with the grunting of wildebeest warning everyone else in the herd. We couldn't get back to sleep due the excitement of the forthcoming day.

We tried to do a little writing, but the internet was not strong enough to upload a blog.

We got our camera and rain gear ready and marched off for breakfast with Gigi. It was still raining when we started breakfast but had our fingers crossed for the day ahead.

We set off at 07h30 for the Musiara Mara National Park entrance with William as our guide, seeing the ample game along the way. The routes were muddy from the downpour of rain and made life entertaining, we arrived at the entrance to the park an hour later, we paid our $80 each and proceeded in along with several othersafari tour companies. Al had dropped the hint to William that he had never seen the elusive Leopard in previous game drives and that it could be something to aim for...lol. We later met a photographer that had been coming to the park every day for the last 2 months to see a Leopard without luck so we knew it was a big ask.

We continued deeper into the Mara and noticed a lot of baby Thomson Gazelle then came across one and its mother that was less than 30 minutes old, William informed us that only 2-3 hours after birth they can escape most predators.

Just a few minutes later we came across a new born impala and it´s mother, we stayed and observed this amazing moment for a while.

We then continued to go and look for a leopard without any luck.

We stopped for lunch next to the river where the Zebra & wildebeest cross for their migration which had a dozen or so Hippo & Crocodile bathing.

After lunch we got back on the trail looking for the next exciting experience and we weren't disappointed. We found a lion pride feeding!

As the day was coming to and end after the lion siting we were going to start heading back to the gate and see what we find on the way. Then William said that there was something going on at the river, and as we get there we see a leopard! It was a short sight as the leopard dissipated into the long grass, but we saw him an got a picture, Al was over the moon. Just a few minutes later William spotted another leopard, she was heading towards a tree, she climbed up and we kept her company for over an hour...

I have done many safaris in Southern Africa and they were all amazing, if you are a nature and wildlife lover I would defiantly recommend a trip to Masai Mara.
